If you often fall heavily after a jump shot or a defensive duel, start with the Mizuno Wave Momentum: it's the indoor shoe that the brand primarily builds for cushioning and stability.

Low or Mid tops, available in men's, women's, and children's versions: the range caters to handball players who jump a lot, stop hard, and want to maintain secure footing.

Wave Momentum Elite : Enerzy everywhere, Enerzy Core at the front

On the Elite, the entire sole is made of Enerzy foam, with Enerzy Core under the front of the foot. Mizuno presents it as their most advanced Momentum in cushioning and energy return, while claiming it is lighter than its direct competitors. A shoe for players who want maximum cushioning without sacrificing stability.

Three details that hold the foot

The stability of the Momentum is not just based on the Wave plate.

  • The raised sole : on the outside of the midfoot, the midsole wraps around the bottom of the upper.
  • The widened contact area : on the inside of the midfoot, the outsole is wider for better foot placement.
  • The outrigger : the sole extends outward at the little toe, to support lateral support.

Wave Momentum Pro : Enerzy NXT at the heel

The Pro retains the outrigger and the widened contact area, with Enerzy NXT foam placed at the heel for cushioning. The Wave plate balances stability and cushioning at the back of the foot. Its shape and half-sock construction makes tightening the laces easier, and the collar is more padded for a soft feel.

Mid, low and children's sizes

Elite and Pro come in Mid, with a higher upper around the ankle. There are also Momentum Mid models available in children's sizes, for a young player who is already jumping a lot. The women's versions cover both Pro and Elite, in low and Mid.

Hybrid Power, the original idea

The first Wave Momentum were described by Mizuno as Hybrid Power shoes: a Wave technology that combines strong stability and good cushioning. The page keeps some older models from this lineage for players loyal to their fit.

Momentum, Dimension, Lightning or Luminous

The Wave Dimension is directly inspired by the Momentum: Foam Wave and Enerzy at the heel, double outrigger and sock. For more lightness, the Wave Lightning is the alternative, and for a running-style cushioning, the Wave Luminous. All families are gathered on the Mizuno shoes page.

Frequently asked questions

Wave Momentum Elite or Pro?

The Elite puts Enerzy foam across the entire sole, with Enerzy Core at the front: it's the most cushioned. The Pro concentrates its Enerzy NXT at the heel, for a more classic cushioning and a tighter budget. Both share the outrigger and the widened contact area.

What size to take in Wave Momentum Pro?

Mizuno recommends going half a size down from your usual size for a tighter fit. If you wear thick socks or if your foot is wide, stick to your normal size and tighten the laces more.

Is the Wave Momentum heavy?

It weighs more than a Wave Lightning, a trade-off for its cushioning and stability: Mizuno lists about three hundred and fifty grams for the Elite and three hundred and twenty for the Pro unisex. The difference is especially noticeable for very light players.

A Wave Momentum for a pivot?

It’s a good choice for a pivot who plays in contact and often lands awkwardly: the cushioning and outrigger of the Momentum help absorb these landings and support lateral stability.

Is the Wave Momentum stable enough for club handball?

Its stability makes it more comfortable for handball than other lightweight indoor shoes. It is primarily designed for volleyball: for intensive club use, a Wave Stealth or a Wave Phantom would handle braking better.
