Mizuno Wave Luminous: cushioning for handball

20 products
20 of 20 products

Mizuno has built the Wave Luminous on a simple idea: to give an indoor shoe the softness of a running shoe, without losing the support required for indoor play.

Soft woven upper, Enerzy foam and XG rubber sole: the range targets handball players who want comfort from start to finish of the match, in both men's and women's versions.

Hybrid Power: running meets the court

Mizuno integrates the Wave Luminous into its Hybrid Power concept: a cushioned sole like a running shoe, combined with a comfortable and secure upper. The idea is to soften the repetitive impacts of a match without turning the shoe into an unstable slipper. The Wave plate remains to balance cushioning and stability.

Wave Luminous Elite, with Enerzy XP throughout

The Elite version takes this idea further. Mizuno places its Enerzy XP foam along the entire length of the midsole, with a soft knitted upper in a sock-like fit and an XG rubber outsole. This is the Luminous for players who are playing a lot of matches and want maximum cushioning.

Wave Luminous Pro, the knitted upper for a soft fit

The Pro features the knitted upper designed for a soft fit and the XG rubber sole. It seeks to balance comfort and cushioning, in a shoe that's a bit simpler than the Elite. Both are available in a women's version, with their own colors, from white and aqua to blue and coral.

The previous version and its integrated sole

The page also lists older Wave Luminous models. The previous version had already adopted the Enerzy NXT foam for cushioning and energy return, a knitted upper, and an integrated insole for better support inside. One detail to know: integrated insoles cannot be removed, which matters if you wear orthotic insoles.

Luminous, Momentum or Lightning?

The Mizuno families prioritize differently. The Wave Lightning focuses on lightness for quick jumps and positioning. The Wave Momentum emphasizes cushioning and stability, with a wider sole. The Luminous prioritizes comfort like running shoes. For a first pair, the Thunder Blade remains a simpler option.

A Luminous for handball?

Originally designed for volleyball, the Luminous can appeal to a recreational handball player who runs a lot without making heavy contacts. In competition, the lateral support required in handball needs a more stable shoe, like those on the Wave Stealth page. The entire brand can be found on the Mizuno shoes page.

Frequently asked questions

Wave Luminous or Wave Momentum: what’s the difference?

The Luminous aims for soft cushioning, inspired by running, in a flexible shoe. The Momentum adds stability features, like an outrigger towards the little toe and a wider midsole. If your ankle tends to roll, the Momentum is more reassuring.

What is a sock-like upper?

It’s an upper that wraps the foot in one piece, similar to a reinforced sock, with the tongue integrated into the rest. It limits friction and conforms to the foot but can be a bit less easy to slip on than a traditional upper.

Is the Wave Luminous suitable for sensitive feet?

Its running-style cushioning and soft upper make it a comfortable choice. If you have heel pain or plantar fasciitis, consult a podiatrist before deciding: cushioning doesn’t solve everything.

Should I stick to my usual shoe size?

Start with your regular sports shoe size and check the guide on the product page, which provides the length in centimeters. A soft knitted upper hugs the foot: there’s no need to go larger for added comfort.

How to clean a Wave Luminous?

By hand only: a sponge, warm water, and a bit of mild soap on the upper, then air dry. The washing machine distorts the knitted upper and may detach the sole.
