Maillot CopaInterestingly, the toughest match in Nottingham Forest's FA Cup journey in 1959 was against the semi-professionals of Tooting & Mitcham United, the weakest team faced by the club. Forest continued on their path by eliminating Grimsby Town, Birmingham City after two replays, Bolton Wanderers, and then Aston Villa in the semi-final.
At Wembley, their opponent was Luton Town, another Division One club, and Forest had the best possible start by scoring two goals in the first 14 minutes. The first was scored by winger Roy Dwight, who joined from Fulham at the start of the season for a significant fee, before striker Tommy Wilson quickly added the second.
Dwight's leg fracture before half-time left Forest with ten men. Even though Luton reduced the deficit in the second half, the Nottingham club held on to win the competition for the first time in 51 years and only the second time in their history.
